FDJ continues to sponsor the International Dragon Boat event that devotes a day to breast cancer survivor teams and another day to area teams, all paddling to raise funds for the cause. On July 8, 9, 10 thousands of spectators turned out in Windsor, Ontario to cheer for this year’s participants.

Year one of the event, we saw less than 200 paddlers and 300 spectators. Summer 2010 brought 3500 paddlers and 20,000 spectators. In eight short years, $1.6 million dollars have been donated to breast cancer health initiatives in local hospitals, and wait times for treatment and the breast cancer journey have been reduced from six months to seven days! Heart and hope reigned supreme on that weekend. Funds raised benefit the Windsor Regional Hospital and the FDJ Image Enhancement Room –Look Good Feel Better Program.

The sun was shining; spring was in the air as FDJ renewed its financial support of the Hillsborough Fashions Gala in Canada’s Atlantic Provinces at Moncton, New Brunswick. The gala’s success is truly outstanding as they have exceeded their original goal 5 times over and have made a huge difference in the lives of breast cancer patients in the greater Moncton area of New Brunswick.

Cindy Hewitt, owner of Hillsborough Fashions, founder and organizer of the Gala, directs 60 percent of all monies raised into an Angel Fund. It was established 8 years ago, in an effort to meet the emergency and personal needs of people in the area who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The balance of monies is used to enhance the quality of education, treatment, support and awareness of all aspects of breast health in their community.

Cindy has been an inspiration to all who know her and a symbol of hope, courage and determination to beat the disease. FDJ is proud to be an ongoing supporter of her wonderful cause.
